From the Golden Age of Radio comes this little heard gem!
Unearthed after generations of surprisingly careful storage, these programs
can now be heard for the first time since their original broadcasts.
Never known beyond the short reach of Cairo Illinois' upstart WSMS,
these programs were found on original shellac discs in the rare books
collection of Northern Illinois University. Their creator / producer
/ star, immigrant former street performer Gene Sadek, bequeathed them
to the school where he had begun teaching shortly before his miserable
death in anonymity. The first episode, heavy on exposition, short on
action, incredibly amateurish in production and lacking any of the songs
that made the show so popular in the downstate region, debuted Aug 1938,
just weeks after the first published appearance of Superman and a full
year before the start of World War Two. Listen for the signing FDR!
